SaaS Business Model Canvas Template

Product-led B2B software sold on recurring subscriptions, with self-serve onboarding and a sales-assisted enterprise tier.

Software-as-a-service models live or die on two numbers: what it costs to acquire a customer and how long that customer stays. Everything on this canvas is arranged around improving one of those two figures.

Use this template as a starting point for a B2B SaaS product, then replace the generic entries with specifics from your own market. The blocks that most often need the hardest thinking are Revenue Streams (pricing metric) and Cost Structure (true gross margin after infrastructure and support).

What this canvas reveals

  • Recurring revenue means the sale is never finished — retention belongs in Customer Relationships, not in a separate retention plan.
  • Self-serve and enterprise are effectively two channels with two cost structures. Model them as separate lines rather than averaging them.
  • Gross margin is set in Cost Structure: infrastructure plus support per account determines whether growth compounds or just burns cash.
  • The pricing metric (per seat, per usage, per outcome) is a strategic choice, not a pricing-page detail — it decides how revenue scales with customer success.
